Iranian tanbur player to perform at IAF

TEHRAN –Iranian tanbur player Niknaz Mirqalami will present a solo performance at the Shahnaz Hall of the Iranian Artists Forum (IAF) on September 29. 

Entitled “The Silky Constellations”, the solo improvisation is assigned with twelve segments, IRNA reported on Monday.

Mirqalami holds a degree in Philosophy of Art from Tehran University of Art and a Master's degree in Music Performance from SOAS University of London. She studied music with renowned masters such as Hamidreza Golduzan, Keykhosro Purnazeri, Tinush Bahrami, Arshad Tahmasebi, Babak Khazrai, and Majid Esmaeili, and has performed with ensembles such as Shams and the Silk Road. 

Since 2017, she has focused on personal musical expression and storytelling and achieved awards at the international events. 

Tanbur is a traditional Iranian long-necked lute that has been widely used in Iranian classical music for centuries. The instrument has been developed in various sizes and shapes and is usually made of mulberry wood. It produces a rich and deep sound that is considered to be soothing to the ear and mind. 

Tanbur has also been an integral part of the culture and tradition of Iran, reflecting the country's diverse and rich musical heritage.
